Haiku Poems

In our writing unit we have been doing poetry. I have written 3 haiku poems, a haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme. And a syllables is the number of times that you hear the sound of a vowel is the number of syllables in a word. Here are my Haikus:

:

Haikus

Beach

Lying on the sand

No clouds in the sky today

The waves are crashing.

Basketball

Coaches are screaming

Shooting the balls in the hoops

Bouncing on the court.

Cooking

Mum’s head is spinning

Food is flying everywhere

Everyone yelling.
